stumped by a drop in fuel pressure
I had a dual pump setup done, and the car would run at 60 psi, with the 2nd pump coming on only under boost. Under WOT, the pressure would drop maybe 2 psi until the 2nd pump came on, then right back to 60.
Then, driving around, I blew a silicone coupler that shot one of my charge pipes up and bounced around back by the fuel tank. That caused a drop in pressure down to the 40's. I pulled the pumps, changed out a suspect T connector, and replaced the fuel lines in the tank to be sure. Now the car will idle around 56, but when I drive normally, any gear, the pressure will drop to around 50. If I go WOT, it drops into the low 40's....until the 2nd pump comes on, then up to 58.
I have visually checked all the lines, and everything I can think of, but nothing. Could it be the shock of the pipes caused the pump to go bad?? That doesn't seem likely, but I'm out of ideas.
If you purchased of my kits, give me a call at 724-322-8505. I'm also available weekends 9:00am-11:00pm eastern time.
If not try to measure the voltage at the fuel pump relays with a volt meter & also check the grounds for the pumps. This is just as important. The car or battery voltage means nothing.
Sounds like the second pump is working, but there is a problem due to leakage or volume.
Does the system hold pressure when you shut off the car? Has this changed recently?
Will the system support the power requirements of the engine? How much power are you making? Just trying to figure how much flow you have.
As for the power....I haven't turned the boost up on this car yet. It had seen 8 psi for a while, but when this all happened, I turned the boost down to 5. So it isn't making a ton of power right now. Once I get rid of this little issues I keep running into, I'm figuring somewhere between 12-15 psi, and close to 700 rwhp. Money is a bit tight now, but I do want to upgrade further....do you think it's necessary?
