Default 99 V6 Rearend Gear ratio....???

I am new to camaro's and F body in general... I am trying to fix my girls 99 v6 camaro rearend. This thing is howling... BAD.. I do not mess with rearends as far as rebuilding them. I need to know what the gear ratio is, so that I can replace the rearend. Any info would be great..

Thanks

Look for the sticker on the door with the VIN number. Under that is usually found a series of 3 digit codes...one of these with start with GU, that is your rear axle code.

GU3 - 2.73 - Most auto cars
GU5 = 3.23 - was on my 5 speed V6, or certain Auto's with performance pkg.

When mine died I got a takeoff 3.42 axle from the wreckers out of a 99TransAm. It was also alot better because it had a Posi in it, vs the V6's didn't get that and one wheel would always spin.

The only issues was fabbing up brake lines from 4 channel to 3 channel it was fairly simple. That and ABS light was always lit and ABS inop. Never adjusted speedo may have been slightly out, but since daughter was driving car, it was ok, probably read 5-10 miles /hr faster than it really was...she was happy she thought she was going faster than she was and I was happy too.

GU4 it appears to be a 3.08 final drive ratio...haven't seen it before in an F-bod

3.08 is common in V6s.
