they whine with the gears as set up by Strange. I swapped gears in mine, and they do not whine at all now.

Default 9in

I just order my 9'' can't wait to put her in and see what she does. I was going with 12-bolt but everyone I call consider on me to buy a 9'' because of it being alot stronger and less whine I have a '99 SS M6. So I went with a 9'' 4.10 gears, truetrac, 31 splines, new rings

Sorry im new at all this and looking at a moser 9inch rear blank housing and getting a local rear end place to set everything up for me. Im going with tru trac and 4.10s since my car is tuned for 4.10s.

My question, how come on the 12 bolt you can have tru trac with 33 spline axles, but on the 9 inch when your using a tru trac you can only go up to 31 splines? Is this gonna be a worry 31 spline vs 33???

My friends auto has a 12 bolt spool, many 1.29 60' passes. For the original poster, a 12 bolt would be more than enough for an 11s car that only sees the track 1-2x/year. Used 12 bolts go for $1500-$2000, that would be a good option. If you have the coin and plan on making it a race car than a fabbed 9 would make sense. Otherwise a 9inch for a 400rwhp streetcar is OVERKILL.

Has anyone had problems or experience with a DTS 12 bolt? I hear everyone talk about gear wine and then some people say that when they have some one else do the gears the wine goes away. Just wondering cause I got a DTS 12 bolt at a crazy price so I couldn't pass it up. I plan on using everything in my sig and it's a TH400 car with a brake. Any info would be great.

Partially true. A 12 bolt is fine for the auto but for a 6 speed car it will need a spool, even for 11s. I've seen bolt on cars w/far less than 400rwhp break 12 bolts with a posi in it.

I've become somewhat dissapointed with my moser 9". Its in My DD/ bolt on car and figured that since my 10 bolt was dead that I would do it right the 1st time and forget about it... At first I was happy with it and I was told that the whine would be normal, but come its only gone from bad to worse.

The thing whinned like hell on decel at 1st, it wasnt spaced correctly. Had a dealership respace the gears/backslash and then it started squeeking around corners. Had to have a new ring and pinion put in it and respaced again.... Now it whines on accel and alwasys when there is load on the engine and after about 50 miles of driving on it consistanly its so loud that I have ringing in my ears after I get out of the car. Sounds like a turbo winding down while coasting to a stop from 15mph.

Its made my car unpleasent to drive, I take no enjoyment with the whine at cruising speed being louder than the exhaust, especially when I have LTs, duals and LM2s. Its even difficult to talk to someone in the seat next to me. I've only put about 5k on it, hell I went out and bought a truck so I wouldnt have to drive my car because of this.

What the hell is that clunking noise, and what is that whomp, whomp, whomp sound? Didnt have any noise before going to this 9".

It weights a ton and my mileage has gone to hell since It was installed.
Oh and now its leaking from the front seal now.

The only good thing about it is I know that I cannot break it.

I just cut and pasted this from another thread where I posted it... lol, I too lazy to type right now

DM

===============================

I am on the hunt for some rear-end, lol. I have a 98 Trans Am and will be doing the A4 to M6 swap very soon. My issues that I still have the 2.73 10-bolt in and it is beginning to make a little noise. From what I am reading here and there is that the 9" is the best way to go as well as the S60 over the 12-bolt. Now I know almost nothing about rears except the Brazilian girls have the hottest looking rears on the market, but that is a side point, lol...

What does it take to pull a S60 or 9'' from a junk yard and get it to mate up with my Bird? I am a full time student so I need to do this on the cheap. Also what options should I have for the rear if I will be doing SOME DR'ing, but more so AX/Street. Do I get the 40+ spline or stay with the 33? I really only have the $$$ to do this once so....

Oh and if anyone has a unit for sale (with no issues) please let me know.

BTW - I am running stock LS1, but I am thinking future with this. I will be running turbo down the road

Thanks Guys!!!
