Well, when I wanted to get my gears done, I couldn't get a response from Vinci and heard he may be working directly for Crane now. So, I went to the Crane Cams website since they own Mikronite (or vice-versa) and followed their instructions for getting parts Mikronited. Also, Six Speeds Inc. is no longer in business as of a couple of weeks ago.
I sent the gears in to Crane and had them back in around a week. I think the gears only spent two days there while the rest of the time was in transit. Very quick service, and the gears came back with a mirror finish. I have not installed them yet, so I'll try to take some pictures this afternoon so you can get a look at them.

I had mine done a couple of years ago by Vinci. I had to buy new gears (Motive gears in the black box as requested by Roger) for the process. The backlash was slightly different compared to the factory recommended spec as well. While it didn't completely eliminate the gear whine, it certainly hasn't gotten worse after several track runs like the original gears equipped in my Strange 12-bolt. Here's a few pics.

See, that's my point. I guess my factory 10-bolt is a weak link, but not with 19" wheels and tires. I'm not going to get enough traction to be a concern. My current 3.73s (true GM gears) are whining a little on decel right now. I need to do a fluid swap as it's been a few years, but I'm wondering if the next set I go with I should get Micronited or not.

I have had several sets done for my previous race car. When Liberty Gears had a Mikronite machine I went through them.
Ring and Pinion would pick up between 6 to 12 horsepower at the wheels on a dynojet.
Later we started to have amm the gears in our Tremec transmissions done. That is harder to quantify but but if it doesn't hurt we do it.
Liberty went to a different process. Mikronite is a trade name. The process is micro polishing.
I use Liberty Gears to micro polish my trans and rear gears.

They are much better!
LT1 / 4 M6 3:73 guy here, with my $0.02:
As an indiviudal who has busted 4 sets of non-Mikronited ring and pinion gear sets (Yes, I have the thick cast Aluminum cover; yes the unit has been welded, yes, I have Strange axles; Yes, ALL rebuilds were done by pro NOT by me), I can say that I am very had on my N/A car, but I cannot seem to break these gears! Been flogging on them for about 9 months now.
I love them!
Much less expensive than a 9" or 12 bolt ($300 vs. $3,000) and they've been holding up extremely well.
Once I get the STS on, then the real test will begin!

I think it probably just has something to do with who installed them

(Yes, Tick put them in. I've taken my broken toy to them 2 or 3 times now!)
Jonathan can attest to the fact that I'm not afraid to drive it like I stole it!
For the record, their black TA is much cooler than mine!

...or you could just get a 12 inch... however, i think a 10 bolt wold hold up better than a 9 bolt. hah... if you have an M6, just get a better rear end. You wouldnt want to spend the time and money on the mikronite finishing, only to have it be spewed all over the track one day when you really hook up, would you?
