a magazine article "ls1 dos and donts" recommends 3:73's, when i change gears it will be 3:42's because i want to keep mine daily drivable in the event i ever need to sell my car. just my 2 cents, pm me a fax # if you'd like a copy of the article.

ive got 3.73's with a 3500 rpm stall, its not a bad daily driver setup, but it does get annoying every once in awhile. if my car was pulling about same duty as yours though, i would love the 373's. feels great until you see the gas needle actually move in front of your eyes...

If you own a Camaro or T/A, you shouldn't worry about gas mileage if you own one. It will be interesting to see what kind of gas mileage I get in the spring when I bring my car back out from storage, and after when I add heads, cam, and a Yank 3800 stall converter.

yep i have the motive performance gears from a sponsor on here... and they are quiet as can be..... id just make sure and get the master install kit just so you dont have to worry about any of the bearings or seals if you had to reuse them, and pick up some axle bearings while you are at it.... might as well reassure yourself while you are in there

So the Motive Performance gears don't create any more noise than there already is inside of an F-Body?

I have 3.73's coupled to a Y3000 2.0 STR in a 2001 Z28 (Sara), it has never seen the track, and is not a daily driver. She is alot of fun to drive, I get 20mpg on the freeway, and 17mpg in town using 91 octaine gas. The vehicle is correctly tuned.

stall converters lock on the highway. a 1500k stall and a 4000k would cruise at the same rpm. now other cars who may run a non-lockup it should be different.

as promised installed 3.73,no other changes,40 lbs heavier.was very suprised with the results.

2.73 gears--- 3.73 gears
1.98' -------- 1.84'
12.48 1/4--- 12.06 1/4
112.47 mph--- 116.22 mph

made two 12.0 passes.then couldnt get it to 60'as good.
my mph stayed consistent.
116.22. hooked never let off the gas.
115.38 let off slightly
115.27 let off slightly in 1st
115.33
115.03 major spin, let go then got back in it
123.25 100 shot 800psi
115.83 hooked never let off.1st pass of the highway.

As you can see beat my previous best by a little over .4. Looks like I gained 3-3.75mph

High stall doesn't affect anything on highway mpg or driveability.

Did you get da calculations for before/after? If not, that means absolutely *nothing*.

Unless I missed something... you did NOT gain .4 and 3mph by adding gears and adding 40#s, period.
Even if you want to argue that it dropped your et that much, please explain how on a pretty much stock car with a gear swap you gained over 3mph. Not going to happen.
