Default Will rtv sealer work?

I was thinking about using rtv sealer in between the carrier and the housing on a nine inch rear to seal the oil in and prevent drips. Will this work or is there something better to use?

I don't see why not, have you tried a search? Called the company you bought the 9 inch from? I'm sure someone will let you know for sure

It worked poorly for me, I RTV'd the gasket to my
MAC cover and the thing wept after install (even
gave it a full day to set up before install), when
I pulled the cover the gasket that had been RTV'd
to the cover just fell right off. I believe I was using
Permatex high temp red.

I am a fan of the "liquid copper" type gasket
sealant myself, that stuff never seems to give up.
Used that on the second pass and no weepage.

All RTV is not created equall. There are many different mixtures for a reason, each has a specific purpose.

With that said, ultra grey is your best bet for diffs, either covers or chunks.

I assume you mean the gear case and attaching it to the housing. Yes use RTV as opposed to a gasket which will leak.

Gray permatex is awesome and what I run.

Ive always used the black RTV sealer on my Toyota rear ends (same stlye as a 9") never had a leak and i swamped the **** outta it so I'd deff. say the black works good. just make sure to get a good bead and let it set up b4 filling (thats what i always did w/o any issues to this day.

I use "Right Stuff" and have never had a leak. The stuff is amazing, you don't even have to let it set up before filling with oil.

Why does no one like gaskets? I am using a steel gasket that I put a little rtv on both sides but car won't be running till spring so I won't know if it leaks till then.
