Default For you better at math, and knowledgable with gears people.

Just out of curiosity I have a question. I don't really know all the calculations for gears and stuff or I would do this myself.

I got a tune, obveously the gears for the rear were put in incorrectly. Let me tell you what my speedo says, and see if you can tell me what gear ratio was put in for my rear end.

To my knowledge all tranny gear ratios are factory sizes, 2001 TA, M6.

In 6th gear at 1500 RPM my speedo reads Aprox. 25 MPH.

In 5th gear at 2500 RPM my speedo reads Aprox. 28 MPH.

Lets see what you guys can find.

Didn't do a 4th gear, Now that you say that I should have. 275/40/17. I'll play around with the calc myself, but Its just going to be a trial and error thing for me. I was hoping someone would have a formula or something.

Lol i Think i hit pretty close on my second guess. I put in 9.0 and that comes out about right. I told the guy I had 3.90. maybe he was typing fast, forgot the 3 and put the desimal after the 9.

Ive heard before that at 60mph when you have 1to1 (4th) in our cars or 3rd in an A4 that your tach will read close to what you have. I think it was with a about 26 inch tall tire. Im looking thru old CC mags. They used to print stuff like that.
