Break in 3.73 gears??
I just got my car back with the new moser axles and the new 3.73 gears. The shop already did the heat cycles and they said i shouldn't floor it until about 200 miles of break in. Is that a good amount of miles for the break in period or should i wait longer?

Good read ^
I broke in my gears correctly, and they still whined. A guy in that thread makes a good point... about new factory vehicles, gears not broken in and they never whined.
When I got my 2002 F150 brand new, 6 miles on it, I raced everyone with it, took it off roading, etc, etc. Gears never whined one bit and I know I didn't "break them in" properly..hah Now I have a 08, it runs 16.7 stock..no gear whine..hah

Same situation as me man, just got my 3.73's in last week, the shop did the heat cycles for me, said stay out of it for 200 miles, as soon as 200 miles hit i floored it (awsome) and now i have a pretty bad whine, loudest around 35-50 mph. Not sure if the pinion nut backed off or what? Guess i'll bring it back to the shop this week as i have never worked on a rear end before. Any suggestions? How did yours hold up after you put the hammer down for the first time?

I just did my first install ever. I have worked in a very high tolerance job for 17 years now so it was not that bad at all for me. At lest not yet. LOL. I had about 40 miles on it when I kinda rolled into it just to see if I could fell the difference. I now have about 80-90 miles on them and I have got on it about 5-6 times now, still rolling on it in second every time untill I hit third and then off. I still have very very very little noise at all.
My biggest question is should I change the gear oil after the brake in?

Yup, like the man says, after about 500 miles. and make sure you add the limited slip additive if you need it. be sure to wipe off the magnet on the inside of the diff cover when you change the fluid, and recheck the fluid level after you drive it for 10 or 20 miles.
