Default How tough is a stock aluminum Drive Shaft

Right now i have 71 auto ls1 camaro 4l65e 3200 7lb. p-1sc procharger... I plan to hit the strip maaaaaayyyyyyybe once monthly. Realistically not very often. My short term goal is to get this car on the road for the summer withabout 500rwhp give or take a few.

So I'd like to know am i wasting my own time/money by just shortening and repacing the u-joint on the 2000 alum. camaro drive shaft or will i be ok this year.

P.S. Is there a known u-joint replacement for that driveshaft to make it` fit a 8.5" 10 bolt?

So wait you want to shorten the DS? If it was staying stock length and you were just changing the u joint I would think you would be ok. But if you are going through the trouble to shorten just get an aftermarket one that is custom length.

when I replaced my stock 10 bolt with a 9" my stock aluminum drive shaft was bent (twisted) about 1/2". I replaced it with a steel one with bigger u-joints.

Honestly the question for you is , how well will the car hook?? with that much HP a dead hook could spell doom for you. Shortening the DS shouldn't harm the strength of it as long as they weld the the shaft back together well.
Napa should have some cross reference for a conversion joint that will/would work.
