Default is this rearend toast?!

this has been such a ******* headache. The axle bearings chewed the axles up pretty good. should i even use this housing again? or is it done and done?

I'm positive that the driver axle is TOAST. but what about the passenger side axle?

This is the passenger side-

I agree. I wouldn't even use that on ex-Mrs. Koolaid_Kid's car, because she would just come back and bit#h slap me when it went out again.

It depends on what you're doing and what you want.
If you just had a noise and found bad axles, replace the axles, bearings, and seals. 4ch moser or strange axles are $299 a pair from summit. Some chinese aftermarket axles sold on this site are cheaper.

Last complete rear I check at a junkyard was $400, and this guy usually gives me good deals. The axles were **** in that one too.

Now if you're changing gears to 3.42 or some other factory ratio a junkyard rear with a good warranty might be well worth it.

FYI axle repair bearings do not work with 4channel axles and torsen differentials. Just in case anyone was wondering. It would be a cheap, reliable fix with any other diff type.

What are the odds of finding a 4ch f body rear in this junkyard?
I'm in FL too and can find piles of 3ch all day but no good 4 channel rears.
Is that a special deal for you, or is the price good for everyone?

depends on what you want to spend... being a M6 car, if you are planning on doing any more mods or ever racing the car i would start looking for a 9 inch. if you want to get by as cheap as possible and leg out the 10 bolt for a while, then just put a set of used axles in it or a set of the aftermarket replacements.

Well 2 things...

1. The axles are pitted on the bearing surface mainly from wear and tear over the years.
2. Was the Axle Bearing Spinning in the housing itself?

From the looks of the photosthe housing is fine and you just need to replace theaxle shafts and the axle bearings and seals. Let me know if you need any help or parts. We can do a set of Moser/Stock Replacement.

was that directed to me? because i'm an A4 lol. Eventually i will being going that route. but i think i might get the 12 bolt. dunno yet, its a ways away, and need to get this car and other bills paid before i even think of it.

Jeff, I actually JUST sent you a PM.
And the bearings were not spinning inside the housing, i had to use a puller to remover them and it took a few good whacks to unseat them. the bearings werent scored at all.
