Default Help with noise

The noise sounds like it's coming from both sides, depending on if you are in the driver or passenger seat. I occurs on turns and straight when slowing down. Pressing the throttle seams to have little affect on it. Never hear the noise above 30mph or on highway. Hear it on rough roads more than smooth when going straight, always on corners. I had the rear rebuilt in may of 07.

I really cannot describe the sound very well. Not high pitched, kind of a rumble and clunk some times, maybe loose marbles.

Could this be u-joints?

Thanks in advance.

It could be the u joints if you hear a clunking type of noise. It could also be your torque arm, if it is the oem one. Check this link out. http://www.exoticperformanceplus.com...php?service=58 Bob

Nope it is gonna be bearing noise. Possibly a bad axle shaft as well.

Should I pull the axles and check the wheel bearings?

It certainly wouldn't hurt, but I'd check out the simple to check off the list things first. Bob

Jacked rear up, car in park and spun tires by hand. tires spun opposite of each other, I assume normal.

Layed under rear and spun tire by hand and listed directly above me, I could hear a slight noise in the pumpkin. to my untrained ear it sounded like the differential letting one tire spin on way and the other spin the other.

Put car in drive and could hear no noise while it was in the air.

Checked fluid and it started to come out as soon as I unbolted the fill hole.

I grabbed the u-joints and they would spin, maybe 1/8" each way, the same as the yoke on the rear end. No play up and down. Pushed and pulled on tires and they moved very little if at all.

Drove around on the nicest and smoothest road I could find and could hear the noise below 30mph, It's not constant and comes and goes.

I was wrong on one part. The noise goes away when throttle is applied. What could this mean?

possibly bearings like someone said earlier. the shavings could be getting worse and making the sound louder. but at the same time it seems like it would do it all the time if it was bearings.

Pulled cover this weekend and no shavings. I noticed on the housing where you bolt the cover to, there is a hole on each side, I assume to let fluid go to the outer axle bearings? The passenger side was full of rtv silicone and the driverside was almost full.

I replaced fluid and drove around, this is a dd so I couldn't tear into any more. Noise is still there just not as bad. Notice driving that on wide sweeping turns, letting the car coast, the noise is almost gone on left turns but alot worse on right turns. Could this be axle bearings, I laid under the car and heard nothing. When I spin the rear tires by hand I hear a woop-woop. Nothing from the differential at all. U-joint next to transmission is make a chirp every 1/2 turn or so.

Got a quote to rebuild the rear, and I'll probably wait and buy 9" or strange 60, but that is a way's in the future. I only have 4 months and the car is paid off, hope it will last.

Sorry for the rant.

Took the car to 2 different shops today, and both said the noise was not coming from the rear. They both suggested front u-joint. I'll replace and let you know.

Replace u-joints and still have noise. I give up, if it's the rear (leaning toward the torsen going out, since it will not make the noise on a lift) I'll drive it till I can afford a 9" or S60.
