I know it's a big up-front cost, but you can stop worrying about how you're going to make it to work tomorrow if you want to hit the track tonight with slicks... or in theory, you could rev it and dump it all the way to wal-mart over and over and it won't so much as yawn. 1200hp limits on a 370rwhp car = extreme reliability.
I've been spec'ing / pricing Moser vs. Strange 9" today and I'm coming up with the approximate numbers (without freight to get it here):

Moser 9" with 31 spline, using stock disc brakes, w/ 3-channel ABS add on, with back brace, fill & drain plugs installed; add center section as: nodular case, 31 spline truetrac, 1350 series steel pinion yoke, 3.89:1 gears
$2970.00 + Freight (Summit)

Strange 9" complete assembly S60 35 spline truetrac, w/ 3-channel ABS add on (OPRS30)
$2500.00 (direct catalog price)

Love the look of the Moser center section but the Strange is probably going to be my choice. Custom driveshaft from a shop in Winston-Salem... about $360.00 Where are you sourcing the S60? What did they want for freight?

Eric at Midwest Chassis. Free shipping. Give him a call and tell him that I sent you that way. Eric also has his sheetmetal 9", which is bad ***. You'll get your best deal thru him, either way.

I just ran several 6.9x passes at 104 mph last weekend on my 10 bolt with m/t et streets. My car makes right at 600hp and my rear end is 100% stock, 3.23 gears and all. I suppose im one of the luck ones......for now. I know it will break eventually, i just hope it will last until my next years tax refund.

I'm keeping it alive because if I dont have a down payment for my house by the time I'm 35, the car might be for sale. Could be in a garage instead!

I blew the **** out of my 10 bolt at the track on a 4k launch, my car was bolt ons only. I've now got a MWC fab 9"
My friends give me **** because I have a rear end "that's typically found under 7 second cars" but I don't care because I know I don't have to dump any more cash into it, and I don't have to worry about it.
Peace of mind is better than always worrying about that shitty 10 bolt. Now it's time to really get some 60' times

yall are nuts to spend 3k on a 9" rear..i can do a 31 spline for half the cost..here how moser houseing an axle kit, then go to the junk yard an pull a 9" 3rd member, swap gears,ad a spool an put fresh bearings in her an call it a day or you could get 35 axles and shop around for a used 3rd member that can work..you can get them for 500 -800 most the time..

I will add this to my reply # 29

keeping the 10 bolt alive

now lets see if I can add it all up
my A4/stalled/10 bolt

ta cover/stud kit (140.00)
detroit locker (525.00)
3.73 (200.00)
mos axels (250.00)
welded tubes (nc)
mt drag radals (300.00)
air bags (50.00)
adjust ta on body mount(250.00)
relocate brackets (nc)
adjust lca (200.00)
adj phb (100.00)
all labor (nc)
all added a nickel and a dime at a time

heck of a lot of money in a 10 bolt AND still a 10 bolt

I do not want to add it up/all this in a 10 bolt running mid 11'

Well, i've finished up my off-season upgrades (cam/heads/tune/etc.), and here's my installed brace from LPW. I polished the turd while I was at it. I also tightened up my backlash to .007" and brought my carrier bearing preload up to .004" per side whereas it was at .003"/side before. I have yet to drive it, putting ins. on it in a couple of days.
I bought the car with DR's and I really hate having them with a 10 bolt. I am anxiously awaiting their replacement.
We'll see how long she survives, longer than anyone believes it will I hope. It's my DD for now. Next year it will see the occasional road race/autoX, that's after the next off-season's upgrades.

The only reason mine is still alive and not making any noise is because I will ONLY run street tires on it. I have had friends want to loan me DR's for the track but I won't put them on. I DD the car and have no desire blowing up the rear. Until I can upgrade to something else, street tires are all that will be on it. And by street tire I am talking about a good wet/dry tire because I drive it in all weather.

I am also lucky with my rear till a few weeks ago.

I have race quite a bit on ET Drags, but my saving grace is my A4 and never touching the rear. Stock gears, stock fluid. I was scared to change the fluid.

But with all that racing, it broke at a light.

I beat the snot out of 1 10-bolt for 6 years and another for a little over a year but not as bad. Street tires and stock for the one I really beat on. Constant launches, brake stands, 4th to 2nd drops, sideways every time the car turned, donuts, etc.

She'll live unless I dead-hook the thing. I sure would love to let er rip but I fear the carnage of doing so under drag strip conditions. I am thinking of maybe going to the track right before putting the car back into hibernation in about 4 months from now. If it breaks, i've got plenty of time to rebuild, won't be driving the car anyway.
