4.56 gears yes or no
Any one running 4.56 gears? I have trick flow heads custom cam, Fast 92, lt and borla exhaust, ud pulley, drag radials, t-56 tranny with spec stage 3 clutch, and 4.10 gears. I dont daily drive the car and if i do it is in town not for long distance, more of a weekend street racing for the fun of it no winter driving i dont take it to the track or do high rpm clutch drops. 2001 Z28. This may be a stupid question as i cant find much info on this so please educate me on this if i'm being stupid thanks.

to get the most out of a set of 4.56 gears your going to need a 28" tire. To play around on the street is fine but if your going to get serious and want the most out of the car N/A at the track 4.56 gears with a 28" tire is the steepest you can go without running out of gear. You would not make a full pass on spray without running out of gear. If 28" tires are out of the question than a set of 4.33 with 26" tires will act like a set of 4.56 gears with 28" tires. And down the road if you wanted to spray with the 4.33 you would then have to switch to a 28" tire. So in short
26" tire go with 4.33 gears
28" tire go with 4.56 gears
either way on the street your gonna be peddeling the car to try and get traction if you were to try and race someone. Better off staying with the 4.11 and getting a 26" slick to play on the street if your not serious about going to the track

With your mods I would stick with the 4.10's. I have 4.11's and a 28" tire and I'll run out of gear well before the 1/4 on the bottle. Even if you don't go to the track, 130 just comes way too quick.

Thanks for all the info, still learning i failed to mention the tire size. using nitto 17/275/40 so the tire should be approx. 26", currently no spray for now just lookin for extra fun to drive on street without loosing out to same set up with 4.10's. I might be pressing the question so thanks to all who replied.

So a 4.30 is still good to run on a 26" tire? I was thinking about a steeper gear when I do the 9" swap. Is all this info strictly for and relating to 6sp guys?

I have a very similiar setup to you and currently use a 4.10 gear with a 26" tire and do not cross the line near my rev limiter (6600) which is also near where my peak power is. I'm moving up to a 28" tire and 4.56 gears to get closer to crossing the line at my naturally aspirated peak power. use the gearing calculator as someone said to figure out what RPM you want to cross at and then back into what gear/tire you need...

I went from a tru crap and 4.11's to a spool and 4.56's.....hard for me to blow the tires off...I've got everything BMR has to offer though....I run a 28'' tire and I don't have to launch as high as I did with the 4.11's....I used to bog with the 4.11's leaving at 7200..Now I leave around 6000....My limiter is at 7200
