Default 8.8 build ??

Well the 8.8 was already picked up from a 88 and it has drum brakes and was complete with gear and posi. I have a spare 10 bolt laying around and will use that to cut. Now all is needed is to fab up a tq arm mount and cut and weld the old axle tubes, correct? Can the stock 10 bolt rearend axle tubes be cut off at the center section and be directly welded to the 8.8 rearend? Also for the tq arm mount does anyone know exactly where to place the mount with measurements or pics? Im looking to have this completed in the next couple months and all the work im gonna do but would like to have solid proof and the know how from someone else. Am I right about the axles being transferred directly over with no problems. Then the only thing I would have to do is call moser and have stock 10 bolt length axles made up for a 31 or 33 spline posi with a 5*4-3/4" bolt pattern?
does this all sound right and pics are a definate, thanks all

sounds like a cool project. i believe that the stock 10-bolt axle tubes are just spot-welded to the center section.

Before you cut the 10 bolt up, build a jig from it so you'll have something to go by. I am in the process of building a jig using a spare 10 bolt housing I have. But, it's going to take me a long time to do much else once that is completed. (lack of funds)

I have a few ideas for a TQ arm mount that I stole from another forum. I've seen some hack jobs out there, and don't want to end up with something that looks like it's held in by duct tape and pop rivets.

I spoke with Scott@DrivelineSolutions today, (site sponsor), and the parts are VERY affordable for these rears. I'm thinking I can build what I need for about $1K or less. Donor rear, new axles, posi unit, gears, bearings, solid pinion spacer, seals, etc.

Yes the hardest part will be to make the jig for the tq arm, as for the axles it will be pretty easy to swap over. But I was wondering if anyone had made a tq arm mount without a jig??

I suppose it's doable by taking measurements off of both rears, but I am going to incorporate a point of reference into mine at the bare min. My BMR TQ arm has a flange with 4 bolt holes to fit factory and aftermarket rears. I believe I have enough space to build my mount wide enough to utilize all four bolt holes. Might be overkill, but might add some rigidity.

there's a good thread on here with pictures and specs. they made a ladder bar set-up instead of the torque arm and it seemed to be much easier and better.

I already made a jig to make the correct location for the axles to get welded to the 8.8 and im still working on the jig for the tq arm location....that will be the hardest but will be done.

Read the other 8.8 threads. The guys machined spacers so the 10-bolt tubes could be pressed into the 8.8 housing with the spacer between the two. Then welded them all up. I am so tempted to try this set-up. Found a REALLY cheap 8.8 housing to start from.....
