10 bolt gear pattern check

Looks easy to use. Just make sure you check the tool setup more than once. And when you check the pinion depth, make sure you have the proper preload on it. I usually do this without the crush sleeve-so you don't waste it, and then once it is set, take it apart and put the crush sleeve in. Then recheck everything. With new bearings and seals you should need about 25 inch pounds of force to rotate it.
I did not purchase an inch/lbs torque wrench so my buddies and I did some backyard engineering.
breaker bar, socket, 2.5 weight and a tape measure.
2.5lb weight at 10" equals 25in/lbs (this does not include the weight of the breaker bar) so I tired to get it at 7" so I could account for 1 lbs for the breaker bar.
I would send a photo I took but I think I posted too many pics on the forum!!
Both were adjusted to spec
20 in/lbs for the pinion preload (put it in between 15 and 25 for new and used bearings seeing I have only put 125 miles on it sense the last set up)
put it back together and adjusted the carrier shims to get the backlash to 0.007". The pattern I put down on the gears is attached.
I am going to try and get the BL at 0.008 to 0.010
with my next adjustment.
I actually think the 0.013" BL setup looked like it had a better pattern.
Let me know your opinions.
I think the 0.015" backlash set up looks the best, pics posted.
Any issue with running a 0.015" backlash as long as the pattern looks good?
I have noticed the coast pattern has looked good through all the setups however the drive side just started moving from in from the toe to the center with the change to 0.015"
I am going to increase the BL to 0.020 just to see what it does for the pattern. I want to overshoot the sweet spot to know that I am in it otherwise I could just keep approaching it without knowing where it is.
I hate to be outside the BL setting scribed on the gearset from the factory but as I have heard from other don't watch the BL for a good setup you want to have the pattern centered to keep the gear whine down. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
