I am doing a cam, headers set up on my car hoping for around 400 rwhp. how long will my stock rear end hold up and does anyone have any suggestions on if i should keep stock gears or if i should upgrade?

If you run slicks or drag radials the rearend will not last nearly as long as if you just use street tires. What are you planning on using?
If your car is an automatic, a good converter will be more beneficial than a gear change and you can keep the stock gears for better MPGs.

You're playing with fire either way, but an auto will last longer. I blew up a couple of 10 bolts with my six speed, but switched to an auto and ran several low 10 sec passes lifting the wheels before it broke again. The time in my sig was on a 10 bolt.

i think you will be alright for a while. i think people dont give them enough credit. sure they are a little weak, but they arent going to break just like that. you probably are getting close to pushing the full potential of it though. i say rip on ir for a while.

Yup, my car has never seen drag radials or 60' times better than 2.2. But yet I broke mine with hard shifting.

Mine has been fine on DRs with plenty of beating on. I have seen them tear up pretty easy when they have high mileage. I think that fresh rebuilds with new bearing sets helps the 10 bolt's longevity.

You guys aren't getting the point that AUTO cars will have a longer 10 bolt life. People with 6 speeds, like mine, don't.

O I get that point. Let me give you a quick example. Perfectly good 100k 10 bolt. 4 baby launches on street tires at the track with 2.0 60 fts and it starts howling. 5K later the noise has grown terribly loud and rebuilding is mandatory. Same rear end, 5k later after a fresh rebuild with 4.10s, same posi, all new bearings within spec. 6 launches at the track, rear end is perfect with no issues (M6 BTW). Auto car, 100k, 1.6x 60fts with 3200 converter on DRs. 12 track passes and ignorant amounts of playing on the street, no issues. go figure.

Correction, something always breaks right before the fastest pass you will ever make
