What about housing length, from the flange, where the backing plate bolts ? Is 93-97 the same length as 98-02 ?

I believe tube length to be the same, I am almost 100% suree but I have never measured. The cross pin in an Auburn is a smaller diameter then the width of the thrust block in a torsen, hence the axles that go in the auburn I believe to be slightly longer, so if you use the torsen axles with auburn posi or visa versa there could be a clearance issue with the brakes.

GM parts manual shows same axle part numbers for 98 Auburn and 99-02 Torsen.

BUT,Auburn pin is .764" dia. and Torsen block is .936" thick, which means axles with a Torsen would be .086"(just under 3/32') out further.

it will bolt up but the brake backing plates, gear ratios, and abs systems may be different. the housing itself is no different other than which abs system it had.
