you cant just center the wear. if these gears have more than 500 miles like that thats where they have to be ran. if you change it, they will whine and wear very fast.

ok so i should just leave them be then?

when you set up brand new gears, that is when you want to get the wear dialed in perfectly?

yes, leave them be. when you buy new gears, you want a full egg shaped pattern right in the middle of the tooth.

Awesome, I think I'm going to turn my old rear into a project. Looks like just the pinion bearings are damaged but everything else looks good. It will be fun to throw in some new gears and try getting those set up

Just buy a pinion depth tool and dial indicator and do it right the first time. Most aftermarket gears are stamped what tolerances should be. It's cheaper to buy a set of tools than to ruin a R & P. And then when you learn how to do it, you can charge your buddies to do theirs and make your money back and keep the tools.

Thanks for the offer, I'm in vegas now and spent the whole day yesterday swapping rears. Feels good, can't hear anything. I put maybe 10 miles on so far.
