You can drive a spool on the street but it'll be hell on tires. If you want to corner or take curves the spool wont be your friend. The down side most people see with a locker is the noise other then that they are good and are great at the track

Locker clunk some more then others but that just the nature of a locker. Not sure about speed with a spool I haven't had one I've just talked with people that run them. Since both wheels always spin at the same speed with a spool they can hop sometime during slow turns and their just harder on tires

Personally I'd go with a spool if the car is a limited street car. We even have a spool in this Cadillac CTS-V. http://www.exoticperformanceplus.com...Car.php?car=29 The only time you will really notice a spool is when turning in intersections, as you will feel the tires scrub. Bob

spool here, I put alot of miles on mine, I started with a detroit locker, what a piece of junk, noisy as heck, and the backlash in the locker is insane when accelerating and decelerating the car lunges and shakes, It was by far the absolute worst mod I ever did, thats why I switched to a spool. It is hard on tires, when you buy tires dont buy sticky ones, cheaper harder compound tires for the street, so they scuff thru the turns easier, they last longer. I never notice the spool except on slow tight turns, Parking lots mainly. If you race it use another set of wheels with slicks, thats what Ido.
Be very careful about that trac-loc There are a ton of guys who have broken them on the track, If you are swapping to a 9 then it is a safe assumption that you are gonna go to the track. some guys have had good luck with them but most have not.

a few post under yours seeeeeeee!!!!

Yeah the new trac locks are no good. I've seen bolt on cars break them if you're putting in a 9" go with something that'll last

Okay. Are we talking the same lingo here? Trac-Loc which is the original Ford Posi with clutches but the better billet cover? Eric (MWC) says never saw one break. Read here and nothing on one breaking.

Now that other POS True Trac is a POS. Saw some carnage pics this morning and read stories on it.

if your going to drive it on the street, dont get an aluminum spool, you will twist the splines out of it in a hurry. ask me how i know.

Good to know this is Normal.
I just finished the install of a Moser 9 that I picked up with about 800 miles on it, it's got 3.70's in it with a Detroit soft locker. My car is an A4, within the first mile I couldent believe the noise. I headed back to the garage to find out that it had about a 1/2 quart of oil in it (ya dumb *** move on my part). Got it filled up took it for another spin and it helped but most of the noise is when I slow down.
