4.10's, Too Short

I didn't "threaten" you, I said get my name out of your sig or else we're going to have a problem. I want nothing to do with you, I don't want you in this thread, and I definitely don't want my name in your profile. I don't think thats an unreasonable request.

WTF are you guys talking about? He says there will be problems because I put a ridiculous quote in my sig so I ask what exactly he is going to do. I never called him an idiot and I've never threatened him. I simply pointed out he's threatening someone over an internet forum which is ridiculous.

The only "internet tough guy" here is you, you come in here running your mouth like you know everything and trying to give me advice I didn't ask for.

I don't know what "problem" we will have, since this is an internet forum. We will never meet in person, never talk to each other, and probably never converse again.....so I don't understand what problems you will cause me.

There are forum rules against harassing other members. And whats exactly what you're doing.

Love the sig quote black! That's priceless!
And way to put your foot in your mouth Wes!
Anyway....
The nitto 555 is by no means the same tire as the 555R Wes. I've had 555's and they arguably suck. At least with the power I'm putting down, but I recall that they sucked with alot less power too!
Before you rip the 4.10's out of the car, try a tire that is actually going to net you some traction. You just may change your mind about them.
Tires are an essential part of making a car fast.

I think you are confusing acceleration with engine speed. The RPM's rise faster, but the car does not necessarily accelerate faster.
Acceleration is defined as velocity over time. So with the 4.10's you will be going through the gear in less time, but gaining less velocity. So it should even out.
As for distance covered, distance is velocity x time. So if you have shorter time but less velocity, once again it should even out. See what I mean??
I see what you are saying, but see the above formulas. It should theoretically balance out either wat.
As you said - 4.10's allow the engine to accelerate faster, so you go through each gear quicker. However, in the time you are in each gear, you cover less distance and gain less velocity. Tell me if that makes sense to you...its been a while since I've had physics.
Thanks for the post. Let me know what you think of the formulas. From the way I see it, it should always balance out, except in 1st gear from a dig, since the gears get you into the actual powerband faster and get the car moving. I'm in no way argueing that they have an advantage off the line.
My point is that any way you look at it, 4.10's should only help on the launch. Therefore gains in ET would be due to leaving the line harder, and any trap speed increase could be attributed to the engine getting into the powerband quicker from the start.

I see what you are trying to say but gears do have an advantage from every speed. I gained 2 tenths and 2.5 mph in the 1/8th mile when I switched from 3.42's to 4.10's with the same 60 foot time. The gain through faster revs and time in the power band out-weighs the loss in mph for each gear. The car gets into the power band faster and stays in it.

i wanna stick my 2 cents in this thread too lol my 98z has 4.10s and its true you gotta have good tires for the 4.10s to be worth anything cuz my 60 foots suck and i run 555s too and i still couldnt pull a decent 60 foot i wanna try the new nto5r this season and pray for the best and im just gonna have to run thru 4th at a higher rpm cause im at 6200 in 4th at the end of the 1/4 mile now

LOL come on man its a sports car not a 4 door sedan. I have 4.10s in my car and i drive it like i would my 3.42s i had and i actually wouldnt mind going to a 4.30 gear since to me it was no big deal even when i had stockish power. And a gear swap will help your 60 foot and et at the track if driven properly.

the mods need to delete this thread of useless nonsense started by a absolute MORON!
Get real dude... regardless of your opinion 4.10 is a great gear and a ton of fun to drive on the street unless your a ***** footin queer in which case you would drive something more like a Cobalt, oh wait... you do. Now this ALL makes sense!
Nuff said? good... MODS PLEASE delete this before a kid eager to learn about his new F-body reads this and more misguiding info gets passed around the net.

The thread started as a pretty informative thread and had a lot of good opinions and friendly debating... it's become a clusterfuck now. The thread has begun to frustrate me in that Wesman still only believes 4.10's are beneficial in 1st gear and not every other gear. Either way... in before the lock. And yes, it does need to be locked.
