About 9 months ago my OEM 10-bolt went out. It still had the stock 2.73 gears in it. It is also an A4. Basically all the bearings were FUBAR. I put a new Jasper 2.73 rear in it and it whines when decelerating and constantly from about 50-70. I have decided to just live with it as it seems to be a common problem.

You may have a brand of gears that just whines. Some whine more than others from what I've heard. It's possible in my case that Jasper uses one of those brands.

As was said before check your pinion bearing(s). My 1996 3800 firebird whined all of a sudden and that was the problem.

Mine too, 140k, whines on decel. I'm probably gonna have a set of gears installed soon and watch the guy to learn how to set it up. That crap drives me crazy!

Will the wear on the gears and whining affect performance?
