Default How can you check for what gears you have installed

I want to buy a 4.10 gear for my 10 bolt but what if the car had some gears changed in the past (don't know the history of the car)? Is there any way I can check to see what gears are installed? Thanks.

Turn the drive shaft and count how many turns it takes for the tire to make one full turn. Or open up the rear end and count the turns to make the ring gear make one full turn
