How much to have gears installed? i just called a shop here in Franklin, TN to see about having a set of 4.10's installed in my 98 SS.....they said they have never done a camaro f-body, then quoted me at 570 bucks, and that's if i supplied the gears!!!
how much did you guys pay?.......does anyone know of a shop that would do a good job here in middle TN?

I'm a gear installer locally to where I live. Every customer is different in what they need but labor rates vary from $200 to $300 here with other shops. Labor for gear installs is going to be a little higher due to the attention to detail needed.

Your research is correct. Backlash, Pinion Depth and preload in a few different places need to be measured accurately. This requires some special experience. Only an experienced installer can get it right in enough time to actually make money on the job instead of losing money.

$90 for my gear swap but he's a friend with a shop so I guess he gave me a good price! 
Anything over $300 is completely ridiculous IMO! Speed shops around here charge about $250-$300.

They quoted you way too much. I am from Tennessee and have not needed this done, but can tell you that you need to find another shop! I wish I had a recommendation for you. I will ask some friends if they have any recommendations. Good luck!
