So I was pulling out of work this morning, got on the throttle a little bit and heard a loud noise. I let off the gas and I could hear something rattling from the rear. I have a rear end from an 02 WS6. So I got home, put the rear on stands, looked around and checked out the lca's, relocation brackets, panhard rod, and sway bar. They were secure. Took it for a drive and could still hear rattling. So I put the rear back on stands, put the car in drive and I could hear the rattling. It stopped when I put my foot on the brake.
I'm guessing something in the rear end broke. What do you guys think? I know the next step is to take the cover off and check it out, but I might not be able to do that untill Monday. Just wanted to get an early diagnosis. Thanks.

Got a chance to take the cover off this morning. Was greeted by little chunks of metal. One of the gears in the carrier unit is stripped. Is that something that can be replaced seperately, or am I going to need a new carrier unit?

Posi is shot. Your better off just picking up another used 10 bolt.
The posi is not rebuildable. You can drive that one "normally" and be fine for a while.
Once the gears totally strip out the car will not move. I always thought it would just act
like an open carrier but that is not true.
