Default Missing lug nut thread! Help!!

Hi,

I just bought a 99 SS vert about 2 weeks ago. Finally came around to washing and polishing it today and noticed that one of the lug nut on the pass. side is gone. It turns out the thread has snapped.

How do I go about fixing this?

Thanks...

Sid.

replace the wheel stud...knock it out from the front, and knock a new one from behind....

Personally, I don't like hammering on bearings. I would remove the hub (front), or axle (rear) from the car. Then remove/install the stud by hammering on the flange only.

Pulling it in with a nut isn't recommended, because most folks don't use a torque wrench to do it. You may over torque it in the process and be right back where you started.

I was in the same situation when I recently picked up my 99 SS. I actually had 2 stripped studs, one in the front and one in the rear. I ended up doing it the easy way by hammering them out from the front and out the back they went. Then popped in the new ones through the back. You just have to align the stud with the little whole in the back.

It would be better to pull the axle. You can do a differential fluid change at the same time.

thats definately the rear in the picture.

since thats the case, your going to have to pull the axle, otherwise the backing plate will be in the way of the wheel stud.
