I checked my drive shaft and there was no play. So right no u joints are out of the question.

I am still looking for the shims.

I am ready to buy them from dealer but I faced the following problem:
When I was taking out my differential all that came out was
1-differential
2-bearing conical races
2-shims (.2425 & .2400 thick)

However in the parts manual when checking correct part # I noticed the assembly is as follows (page 862)
1-differential
2-bearings (including conical races)
2-spacers (.171-.172 thick)
2-shims (different sizes)

I double checked there was nothing left in the differential housing and nothing rolled away from me.

Does this mean that from factory they come with shims/spacers and when rebuilding I need shims+spacers????

Thanks all

Every 10 bolt out of an M6 car I have taken apart had this exact same problem. Autos dont seem to have it.

Default Update

I have finished rebuild, but it did not solve all the problems.

With a shim kit I set my backlash to .0055. I tired all shim combination I could think of and the best choices was .0100 and .0055, so I chose the second one. This exercise helped but did not get rid of all the problems.

Overall the clunking reduced, but I still have it; when cruising and applying gas on/off. There is reduced noise and no vibration during left turns and left tuns + breaking.

The new problem I have is: I get one clunk during right turn highway ramps and I started a new thread.

Thanks all.
