Default 12 bolt posi from a 98 camaro

I plan to pick up a 12 bolt, shorten it with custom axles but I was wondering if anyone knows these 12 bolts from the camaro's before I picked it up. Gears are unknown and I just wanted to make sure if it was worth shortening or should I look at another 12 bolt.

Thanks

no 98 camaro had a stock 12 bolt, so you are likely buying either a 10 bolt or an aftermarket 12 bolt.

If you are not looking to put the 12 bolt into a torque arm car, you will be better off buying the axle if it is cheap enough and selling it on this forum for a 4th gen car, and then buying a different 12 bolt to build up. New they go for over 2000+, used should be at least 1200+

I actually going to put one in my colorado and it has leafs. Not exactly sure how but either that or a 9". Not sure what you meant by buying an axle and selling it on the forum. I assume you meant to buy my custom axles and us those in my shorten 12 bolt? So if this so called 12 bolt from this 98 camaro is a 12 bolt how can I tell other than 12 bolts? The guys said it has a posi so and the price is pretty cheap so I figure its worth a look.

thanks

He's saying if the axle is a 12 bolt & was in the 98 F body & youre not gonna use it in an F body youd be better off selling it here on the forums cuz it has a torque arm mount. This rear wont work in your colorado but if its a 12 bolt it might be worth buying & flippin, they go for $1200 used. If its a 12 bolt the rear diff cover will be round & not oval shaped like the 10 bolts are. A 9 inch doesnt have a diff cover.

Thanks for the info...so in my case what 12 bolt should I be looking for? I was actually planning on using my axle tubes from my colorado and attaching that to the 12 bolt along with new axles. What you guys think? Or narrow the original 12 bolt.
