Default new rearend

going to be building a rear end over the winter. Im still in research mode, but have a quick question. The car is a 2000 ws6. next spring i will be dropping a 427 lsx backed by a built t-56. what rear end would you recomend. Im going to start off by finding a housing, with or without internal parts (goona put the goodies in it). what would you recomend for a housing? should I get one out of another vehical and clean it up? I dont feel like spending over $1000 just for a housing when i can find one that can be fabbed up to the car by me.

also, any suggestions on some good strong gear and pinon sets? ill be doing 3.73 gears.

A good place to start with any performance question is, what do you plan to do with the car?

great response! Its going to be a street/strip car. something that can be drivin daily and be taken to the track once in a while. I like a car that handles good, not just in a straight line, so no crazy drag set up.

A 9" sounds about right for you. True trac, or Wave Trac, but definitely no spool. If you're concirned about the weight issue, then a fab 9 from either Moser, or Midwest Chasis would suit you well.

well im a savy shopper and have plenty of time but i was looking at this housing to start off with.

http://www.jawsgear.com/M-MoserEngin...duct_info.html

like i said. im still in research mode so im still trying to figure out what goodies to put in it. might change my mind on the gear ratio, but for a street car im thinking 3.73 is goona be my max.

is a true trac posi the way to go for a daily driver? and whats a good brand for gears and would this be a nice one?

http://www.jawsgear.com/M-Eaton/TT_9...duct_info.html

thanks for all the help!

trying to, but most 9inch housings are not set up for the f-body. I could weld the brackets up, but the cost of a 9inch housing with all the brackets for 5-600 bucks isnt bad considering its goona be straight and true.

actually, I think i might buy a bolt in unit. the parts are almost as much as one already built. learning is fun and all, but someone that has been doing this for 20+ years is going to build one better and make it last compared to me putting one together and spending more in the long run fixing it when it breaks.

427lsx(building that myself for sure!)

That seems like a really nice setup. whats the difference though? you can get either one with the torque arm. Is the one with the crossmember just if you are swapping out transmissions. The car is an automatic now, but I am going to switch it over to the 6-spd.

Thank you for the links. seems a little cheaper than MWC, but im still waiting to hear back on a final price.

do you think 3.73 gears would be about right with a 6spd? would 3.90 or 4.10s be to much for a street car and highway cruising?

The M9 will not be cheaper than a MWC but the stamped housing will, but wont come with a torque arm. I have had a stamped 9 inch and my car now has a MWC. And for a good reason, The MWC comes with alot more standard features and a torque arm and mounting bracket. Which makes a very nice install and clean. And for a street strip kinda of car and a 6 speed i would at least go with the 4.10s.

comprimise and go 3.89s! i did!

and when you compare the price zmg00camaro is right, look at all the add ons. mwc has standard features that really add up on other rears. not to mention the 4-500 dollar torque arm with it.

i went with a factory ford posi, NO abs, 3.89s, strange carrier case, back brace, steel drive shaft, and tunnel mounted torque arm, got it for about 2850 shipped.

Thanks for the advice. so now im deciding on a m9 with torque arm or a MWC rear with 4.10s. either should be a good setup, just waiting to hear back from both. ill probably install it in the car before winter to break it in. that way when the new motor/tranny combo goes in, ill be ready to tear it up(besides clutch break in). Or I mean, my fiancee to tear it up.. ha ha.

so the torque arm is included in the price of their $2700 baseline price? so much to decide!! its fun though

You should look into the 12 bolt also, keeping in mind the 12 bolt has less hp absorption then the 9"..

there's been numerous tests done that show the 9 in doesnt eat as much as some think.

I have seen both rear ends (Moser and MWC). I really like the way the M9's look and hold up under us kicking beating on them each weekend. I have heard some problems with leaks with the MWC. Not trying to beat up on anyone but Bob is an absolute stand up guy. I have two friends, one has bought two from him and one just bought one a couple months ago for his truck. They are both really hard on them and they are holding up good. Just give Bob a call and ask him what would be best. He is a very honest guy. If he don't think you need it, he'll tell you. BYW, I believe he is the #1 Moser dealer in the country.
