yea, you must be talking about a GM 12 bolt. most rear end fill plugs you just put a 3/8's drive of the ratchet or the end of a 3/8's drive extension in there and loosen or tighten it. i've never seen an allen head on a rear end fill plug.

that's strange. most all the filler hole bolts i've seen have just been a 3/8's drive square. can't say i've done it on a moser rear or even a 12 bolt though.

i am 100% sure it will not take a 3/8 drive into the head (i tried it), it has a recessed hexagonal hole looks like it will take a allen key.

It is not a 3/8 drive end.

I am not home but it is a big *** allen head one. 3/8" allen or bolt should work. try a bolt and doulb nut first.

Sorry no help here

It's been almost 10 years since I had that plug out but I believe that it is a 9/16" allen wrench.

well i dont have any extra bolts and stuff around the house but i figured maybe i could use some clay or something to get a mold of the size to compare against the allen key itself

I can't remember right on hand but I either used a 5/16 bolt (1/2" head) or a 3/8" bolt (9/16" head) then put a pair of visegrips on that. I think I used a 4" bolt or so. I know its not a pretty way of doing things but it works. I never had an allen big enough.

And for the people saying its a 3/8" square you shouldn't even been trying to answer the question since you have no idea what it is.
