I got the AAM 4.10's and still have a very small whine on decel around 45-55 mph. pinion shim is stock at .032 and back lash is .004. I am thinking about taking it back apart tomorrow and would like some opinions on which way I should move it. I am thinking about going .030 on the pinion and keepin the BL the same.

This is what I had at .030 pinion with wider backlash I think around .006 to .008

I build rear ends, call me I'll give you my opinion, looks very close. Go to the .030 shim and keep the same exact side hims opening you BL up to about .007 - .008. I think that might help.

You dont think I should lower the pinion anymore? This is a picture with about .008 BL you can see how the pattern moved up the tooth compared to the pattern with .004. At .004 the pattern is right over thier laping marks. Although I do agree that .004 sounds tight. Before I put it back in this last time I made the pass. side shim .001 wider and it opend the lash way and made the carrier really tight, so I put it back and ran it at .004

This looks good though on coast side

.030 looked to far up the tooth so I was able to get .031. The back lash is at .005. This is the pattern it looked awesome, the pictures under the car make it kind of hard to tell but the pattern was not cut off at all in the root of the tooth ahd there was still paint above as well. Its crazy how sensitive this thing is. Now the decel whine is gone and I have a small aceleration whine. I may try to open the BL up some more to see what that does.
I also have a vibration that has shown up that has been there both times I drove the car with the 4.10's. It seems to really only be there in 6th gear under a load.
