Default Gears for a 12 bolt (carrier series)

Just picked up a Strange 12-bolt and I'm going to a 3.90 gear. It currently has a 3.42 gear. Eaton HD posi in it. Should I be looking into a 3 or 4 series gear?
My car does not have Traction control, but does have abs.

I looked around on here and am still not clear on carrier series info.

Thanks

3.90 and numerically lower is 3 series, 4.11 and up will be 4 series from Strange, oem may be different. call us for a quote... we have great deals on any rearend internals.

I had a 12 bolt with 3.73 gears in a 4 series carrier. Maybe it was a special carrier tho I got it used, last 3 numbers of the serial on it were 174 thought, denoting the 4 series carrier.

So anyway, check the serial number on your carrier:

12 bolt carrier ID last three numbers on the posi unit.
2 series #088
3 series #140
4 series #174
