If your car has traction control (ASR button) it's 4 channel.

No traction control=3 channel.

Correct,

Also IF your looking at a 10 bolt out of the car, lets say a junk yard, the sensor on the top off the pumpkin is for the 3 Channel ABS w/o TCS/ASR, and if the rear end has exciter rings on the axle ends and sensors as well thats the 4 Channel ABS that will work with TCS/ASR.

Depends on what series the carrier is, either 2 or 3 series

2.73s - 2 series

3.23/3.42s - 3 series

Yes It does, see z28/2002's answer.

IF your not sure of the ratio, you can use the Chalk method and measure the ratio of turns with a wheel vs driveshaft.

I'm confused about my rear end... I have TCS but the sensor is ontop of the pumpkin. 3 or 4 channel? I swapped a 4 channel rear end from a T/A in (has wheel sensors), but my TCS/ABS is going crazy and turns off after a few minutes of driving. What's the deal?

Sorry for the hijack...

If you have a 2 series you'll need "thick" gears. The ring gear on the 2.73s are thicker than the 3.23s and 3.42s hence why you would need the thicker gears.

a 'series' defines the distance between the centerline of the pinion gear to the carriers' flange surface where the ring gear bolts to.

for 2.73s' and 3.08s',where the pinion gear is larger than the others, the ring gear is required to be farther away from the pinion centerline.

if/when you're using a 2 series carrier and want to use 3.23,3.42,3.73,4.10 gear, they have to be of the 'thick' design.

you can buy 3 series ratios that work on a 2 series carrier.

How do I tell what series I have without taking it apart and measuring it?

If your gears are 3.08 or lower, it's a 2-series. 3.23 and up is 3-series.
