9 inch or dana 60 is the way to go. 12bolts will still break. I went with a strange s60 and don't regret it at all.

You'd have better luck in the gear section, but fwiw I'd take the 12bolt out of the equation for an S60. Personally I went MWC 9", 4chan, tru-trac, 3.70. S60 cost a little less....either way, you can't lose.

The 12-bolt is a very good rear end. I have the Strange 12-bolt with a 4.11 gear in the rear end and 28" tall tires. The only bad thing about a 12 bolt rearend is that after a few hard launches the rear end is going to start to make a whining noise. If I had to do it all over again I would go with the Strange 9". It is easier to replace the chunk than the S60 or the 12 bolt but it eats up a little more power than the 12-bolt does but it's not as bad as the S60 is.

You really can't go wrong with any of these rear ends and can run in the low 9's with any of them without and issue. Good luck in your choice.

Why take the 12-bolt out?

I guess it depends on if you have two to three months to wait for it to arrive. If you have the time, then it isn't a bad way to go. Bob

The most recent timeframe I saw from one of his customers was three months from the time he placed his order to the day he received it. Bob

this part is wrong, the s60 is actually more efficient then the 9 inch...strange engineering says so them self. but dont get me wrong, the 9" is one Bad mother F'er..and the loss between a 9 inch and a s60 is like 1/5% not much at all, but the 9 inch is less efficiant

A couple of years ago, Car Craft tested this. They fitted their Chevelle with a 12-bolt, then a 9", then a Dana 60. They tested all 3 on the same chassis dyno. The differences were negligible. The 12-bolt was best, the 9" was worst, but all were within 5 HP. All tests used the same lube. The 9" was 3.50:1, the Dana was 3.54:1, and the 12-bolt was 3.55:1. And still is. They're still using it.
