Default series 4 carrier??...

Hey fellas, this is a noob Q but its strictly rear end stuff so i posted here, hope you dont mind..

So i stumbled across a guy selling a brand new in the box RICHMOND 4:10 gears with the install kit for pretty cheap (compared to online prices).. I didnt seal the deal yet because i wanted to look up some stuff on the product.. Well on LMPERFORMANCE.com i found those 4:10 richmond gears BUT it says "You must have a series 4 Carrier or this will not fit without modification." in bold lettering.. Do i have a 4 series?? i looked on the sticky but it only talks about 2&3 series carriers.. I wasnt looking to buy rear end gears yet but for the price i attempted to do a little research..

anyways any info on this or advise is appreciated.

"A 2 series carrier is a car that came with 3.08s or lower from the factory (i.e. all of your 2.73 cars). A 3 series carrier is a car that came with 3.23s or higher. This is very important when you order new gears, as they will differ from 2 to 3 series carrier!"

thats from the sticky..

so from that, 3 series is anything above 3.23s, i believe my car factory comes 3:42 so its a 3 series right? im just confused because looking it up on that website stictly for my car and clicking on the richmond brand, it pulls up that i need a 4 series.. if anyone can verify this for me that would be great

what is that website that states 4 series for your car ? Provide a link.
4 series is typically seen/used for larger rearends, not our little 10 bolt.
Yes, the 3.42s are 3 series.

looked at the website you referenced, they state a Richmond gearset, went to the Richmond site for the 4.10s and it shows for 3 series carrier,I believe the '4 series' statement is wrong and needs to be corrected/updated.
http://www.richmondgear.com/07pdfs/RG9.pdf

What year is your car ?
99 & later,which have a Torsen carrier,requires a 'modified' paddle to use 4.10s'.

The part# on the LMPerformance site is R16903221.
The part # on the Richmond site is 690322-1.
Looks like The LM site added some 'coding' ID for their site.
98s' and earlier had Auburn 'posi' and an Auburn 3 series does not require any modification to accept the Richmond 4.10 3 series gear.
From all indication, they're good. BUT if you're gonna buy from them,I would call them and ask them to explain the 4 series designation since 4 series does not apply to GM 7.5/7.625 10 bolts.
