Default grinding Strange aluminum center to make gears fit?

Do you normally have to grind some areas inside the Strange aluminum 9" case for ford 9" in order to get a trac-lok posi to fit inside with 4.11 gears?
I had my gears changed on my 9" by a local machine shop and he didnt know if that was normal,he said he was suprised to see it when he pulled it apart. He never deals with posi stuff cuz he usually builds spool stuff with 8-900 horse.

Yes it is normal, you have to clearance it to get certain differentials to fit. It is very minimal amount that is removed and all part of people using an aluminum case that was designed for a spool but using bigger diff units instead much like the trac-loc posi.

It will effect nothing as long as it was done by someone that knows what they are doing and have several out there this way with out issue.
