Default Gear problem rant.

When I bought my car, it was supposed to be all original except the muffler. Well I went to order new 3.73s so I checked the door code, see the GU2 and assume I have 2.73s. Gears came in, cars at the shop, and I just got a call that the car actually had 3.23s. Now I have to re-order the gears on a three series and will probably have to wait a while for the car. I'll be putting in a call to WS6 Store first thing tomorrow to have them mail out the right ones.
Was really looking forward to taking it out this weekend so I needed to vent.

just curious,driveshaft-steel or aluminum,if steel means it HAD 2.73s',aluminum could mean driveshaft was upgraded along with gears.
how/what was the rpm vs. mph ?

I'm not sure about the drive shaft. I actually thought it looked aluminum but never really paid much attention, didn't know there was a difference. Is it easy to tell jsut by glancing?
I ran different sized tires and never ahd it calibrated so my speedo was off.

From the factory,2.73s' came with steel,3.23s' came with aluminum. Aluminum-white grey;steel-grey. check it with a magnet !

No, I know it's true. Just wanted to get this done already. Needed a rant. No worries. had a few dozen beers and its all good.

Ran into a similar problem on a gear install. Was putting 4.10s in an LT1 2.73 car. Ordered Summit gears for a 2 series. They sent 4.10s for a 3 series. Wasn't very happy about that (buddy had to get home that night and we didn't figure it out until everything was disassembled). Luckily another buddy had a 3 series posi in the back of the shop he was willing to "donate" to the project so we were able to swap him over to an LS1 torsen posi and get him back on the road the same night. I woulda been pissed if I had to redo it again on another day.
