Arrow What Spacer to Run on Ford 9" with LT1 Brakes

Ive got a 2000 trans am with a ford 9" and lt1 complete brakes on it, the brake rotor is off center and the pad is chewing/touching the rotors, i heard you need to run a spacer. was wondering if anyone knows what size spacer to run before i take everything apart. thanks.

Note: The 1/8" shims are for using LT1 brakes. Bob

Which side of the rotor is having interference issues? There is a different spacer required depending on which bearing you are using... Do you have a bearing with a o-ring on the outside or is it the type with a lip seal riding on the axle shaft? Just an 1/8" spacer between the axle bearing shoulder and the bearing may not be the issue.

it's not just a matter of ordering a shim kit... with a quick description of what you have, maybe a picture even and we can help you more.

there is a difference in how the axle dimensions are setup when they are made. it depends on what type(model year) brakes you are using and what bearing is being used on the axles. There is 4 different combinations of how this can be setup and if your rotor has alignment issues then what you have is obviously not correct. It is very possible that it was not setup correct from the beginning... not uncommon, but we can get you straightened out with a little more info.

if your rotor needs to come out, you may just have the wrong bearing on the axle and not need a shim. if you stack a shim with the wrong bearing, it will offset too far and get you no where.

feel free to call us and we can discuss what you have going on and get you taken care of the first time. We actually work with this stuff daily and know what it takes to make it all work correctly.
