should my friend install my gears??? help? So i had a mustang for about 3 yrs. Invested about 5 grand into it and noticed that i was only keeping up to stock ls1's so i sold it, and bouth a 02 a4 ws6(best decision ever made) My friend installed my 4.10's in the stang i had and he did a hell of a job, should i have him istall my 3.73s in my ws6? Is there any special thing in particular that need to be done when installing these gears? Hes a general mechanich that has worked on a few f bodys but mostly mustangs...lol but hes never done gears on an f body, should i have him install my 3.73s?
what are the current mods on the 02 A4 WS6 ?
Gears could be either 2.73 (GU2) or 3.23 (GU5),but probably the 3.23s'.

Ok...its a done deal im gonna let him do it i just wanted to get other peoples opinion, so yea my car has 3.23s on it right now. With that being said do i have a series 2 or 3 carrier and where can i purchase some gm 3.73s for my carrier? And what am i looking at paying for them?

If you're sure you have 3.23s',that would be a 3 series carrier. A 2002 would have a Torsen 'posi' carrier. 3.73s' for a 3 series are available,virtually, from everywhere/all vendors/common upgrade.GM gears (supposedly GM gears) are available too. Best for you to check around vendor sites for pricing.
You never mentioned if the 02 is 3 channel ABS or 4 channel ABS & TC,not that it matters for gearset. Only brought up because if 3 channel,don't damage reluctor ring mounted on carrier(no,you don't have to remove the ring for a gear change),but they are no longer available and VERY RARE.
