Question Is it my rear?

So yesterday while making a left turn, I got down on the throttle a bit (around 3k). I had a bit of wheel spin followed by a grind and a bang. Now, if I drive normal, everything seems fine. No grinding or whining. If I go heavy on the throttle from a stop, there is a loud banging coming from the back of the car. Where do I start looking? Or is this a common sign of the posi letting go?

look under for any broken suspension/torque arm parts first.

Just took a look under the car. Torque arm seems to be intact. Trans mount is crushed, but the banging is definitely coming from further back.

is it an 'inside something' muffled 'bang' or unmuffled hitting the body/frame bang ?
I would think there would be no difference in 'bang' comparing normal throttle vs heavy throttle with the rearend internals. A 93 would have an Auburn 'posi' and it's internals 'should' make an identical noise (if broken) under various throttles.
Time to drop cover of rear and do a visual.

Doesn't sound too muffled, not sure though. It's loud enough to make me immediately lift my foot off the gas.

Yeah, that's the part I dread the most. I hate the gear oil mess that usually leaves behind.

Yes mine banged too when i turned right and hit the gas. it was the tranny mount,, mine was half ripped but allowed the tranny to move enough to make the noise,,, I put a new mount from gm on it and its quiet now.

Dood that crack in the tranny mount is a dead give away. Its your mount from what I can see, and yes I have had that same thing happen to me a FEW times, and every time it sounded like it was coming from the rear. Sound is just like water as far as it will travel the lest resricted way, so it can fool you.

I had the torque arm to tranny bracket come loose. It would hit the car under hard braking or accelerating. Hopefully the trans mount is your issue.

yah crack in the front end of the mount i see,,,,,, place the car on stands, put the jack under the tranny pan (with a large block of wood to distribute weight on the pan) and slowly jack up youll see the travel the mount has,,, way too much,, it will eventually hit the floor. The mount is attached at the front and back,, only one needs to be cracked for the transmission to hit the floor. This trick is also how you change and replace it.

Thanks guys. Replaced trans mount and noise gone. Glad I didn't have to soak myself in gear oil again.

Here's what the mount looked like when I lifted the trans.
