8.8 True-Trac, play in worm gears
So, after years of searching & trying to get Eaton to comment, finally found others of whom have confirmed what I found in the True-Trac. There is enough play in the worm gears to allow the drive shaft to dither back & forth @ parking lot on/off gas speed. This can also cause a clunk when changing from reverse to forward & vice versa. Have had everything apart more than once, just to re-confirm that the play was indeed in the True-Trac diff & not in the CV's, rear end gear or drive shaft (IRS).
Am posting so that anyone else whom has been looking into this can see that there are others who have found the same issue. The True-Trac is otherwise a great LSD. Just have to live w/ the low speed dithering back & forth & an occassional clunk.
If you haven't experienced this issue, consider yourself fortunate.
