Default 1st gen, 12 bolt T56...What gears?

Ok guys, I am ordering everything to finish up the bell housing area. Might get rear gears in a week or two. I really need help here. I am from the old school days where my M21 wide ratio and 3.73 were ok. I always felt that I was starting in second gear. Freeway totally sucked.
So, I need to hear from you M6 guys, what are you happy with? What are you running? Do you stock ratio guys ever hit 6th gear? I am planning on eventually hitting 700 fwhp and I am more quarter mile oriented, although I would like to do some solo/slolom and open track days at a local road course track. Help me pick a decent all around ratio. Does anyone launch in second at the strip? I hit the ratio calcs online and I am leaning 4.56 and possibly 4.88 anyone here play with those ratio's?

If you're planning on using the standard ratio T-56 for the F-body's, you'll be going 3.73 or 4.10, which would allow you to use 5th off rolls, but it won't be as efficient as 5th will be on roadcourses, with the Z06 ratios.

If you want to set it up for drag racing primarily, I'd go 4.10s. Though if you want to get more out of the middle gears you might be able to go 3.73's without much if any problems.

Thanks. Mine is a F Body T56 and from what I have heard back from others I am really leaning towards the 4.11. I think I was thinking over agressively with the 4.56 and 4.88. Those would make 1st pretty much useless.

Maybe, even if you're running the wider F-body ratios, you'll be able to use 2nd-5th more effectively. However, if you want to hit 700+, even the lower 5th on the F-body is going to run out pretty fast.
