Default rear end replaced

some time ago I needed a new rear end, the original was shot, I was told it was cheaper to put a used one in, so a 98 assy. went in my 2002 Camaro SS. Now it won't go straight when accelerating hard and it makes loud squeeks when cornering slowly, what is making the noise? The 98 rear is a limited slip but does not do the job well.

Yes, new fluid with additive I was told, I have no info other than it was a 98 rear end. I took it back to the mechanic several times without him fixing the squeeks, loud like grabbing brakes but no sign of contact. I don't know if the bushings were cleaned, I would assume so, but!! My SS now has 222,000km on it, only summer driven.
Would it be best to replace the rear with a 12 bolt?

The 12-Bolt is a great rearend in many applications, the F-Body is not one of them. There have been lots of issues with gear whine in the 12-bolt when the torque arm is on it. Some have had good luck with the 12-bolt in an F-Body but many haven't been so lucky.
The Strange 12-bolt is also higher in price than the Strange S60 which is an excellent choice in this application. This is intended to be helpful information not a means of bashing the 12-bolt.
