Default Gear noise after track.

6 speed car mwc housing, And a strange center section that I reset up (Removed the trucrap and installed a spool). Didnt make to much noise just a tad at 70 mph which didnt bother me since all the rod ends and 4.56 gears. Well have about 5 track passes on DECEL only it howls pretty good. Wondering if i should be pulling the center out and recheck something. Going to check the pinion nut this week but the center does have a solid spacer. so any other thoughts?

Decel noise is usually the pinion bearing in my experience. Time for a teardown and inspection.

Sounds normal imo. My 12 bolt was dead quiet when new. After years of track abuse it screams.

How much pinion drag did you set it up with?

Well the 3rd member was built first by a rear end shop local to me. I just removed it and and swap diffs to a spool so never had to mess with the pinion. I did check the guys work but didnt think about checking pinion drag backlash was perfect and gear pattern was just fine so I jam it in there. I think I am going to make sure the pinion nut is tight first. If no change I probly pull it out and inspect.

For what it's worth I have a similar setup; mwc 9", strange s case, and I've gone through 2 sets of yukon gears. My first set were 4.11's and they whined so bad after my 1st time at the track with slicks it was undriveable. Not sure what happened to those gears but I just lived with it for about a year. I just installed some 3.5's and they were dead silent, after launching at the track with slicks multiple times they are making a little bit of noise now. It's still much quieter than the 4.11's but it pisses me off because I had them set perfectly quiet.

I probly check and make sure the pinion nut is tight and if all good run it at the track again and if the noise gets worse then I will inspect.
