Default Help with changing out my rearend

Hello all -

I have 2.73 gears in my 2002 Trans Am (automatic). I want to change them to 3.42 (or possibly 3.73). I found a complete rearend for a 2000 firebird that is in 3.42 for $300. Is this a decent deal? How difficult is it to change over (duration wise) - I'm going to have a shop do it anyways. They said something about having to change the brakes and everything over also...

I'm open to other options/suggestions. This car is basically a "weekender" and looking for a little more "go" by replacing the gears.

Thanks!

is the 2000 from a V6 firebird ? since you didn't state from TA or Formula.
is the channel the same ? 3 channel= ABS 4 channel= TC & ABS

if channel is same, should be a simple swap. if channel is different, can't be 'bolt-in' swap as controls and system are different and not compatable.

^^^correct, you need to make sure you are getting a compatible rear-end, and you don't want one thats a one wheel peel.

Thanks for your help. I've decided to just purchase Motive Performance Gears through nationaldrivetrain.com in 3.42 in a 2 series carrier. I included an install kit for it also. I'm hoping this is all I need. Then, I'll have the diablosport adjust for the new gears (hopefully).
