Default Strange 12 Bolt Fluid Capacity with TA Support Cover?

Strange didn't put a fill plug on the side of the housing like the stockers have and the fill plug on the TA Support Cover is too high. How much do I need?

Last one I did setup like that only took about two quarts. Surprising bc that's about what a ten bolt holds.......and what my 4 wheeler rear end holds. Weird....

The housing itself is just not that big - at least not internally. Everything is crammed in there pretty good. I was surprised that that's all it takes too.

It's kinda weird...Strange also didn't put a fill plug on mine (I'm thinking they don't include one if you order the aluminum support cover), but when I remove the cover to poke around in there, the 2 quarts puts the oil level right about the middle of the cover, so it is plenty of fluid.

Mine took 2.5. The sheet from Strange that came with the S60 said to put 2.5 quarts in it. I just filled mine till it started to run out of the fill hole, which was right about 2.5

That's their S60 housing - we're talking about their smaller 12-bolt housing.

But since you mentioned it, that's also very interesting...the S60 housing looks very large, yet only takes .5 more quarts than a 10-bolt.

Seriously, my 4 wheeler rear end takes 2 quarts and its the size of a box of 4x6 index cards. Size can be very deceiving.

*facepalm* My bad...
Kinda funny though that these rears have almost the same amount of fluid as 01ssreda4's 4-wheeler

Interesting topic guys. Capacity in a reservoir can be deceiving, especially when there are gears inside displacing fluid. Keep in mind the wall thickness as well.

Here is a bit of helpful info:

231 cubic inches = one gallon. If Red's 4-wheeler rear end measured 4x4x6 (guessing) internally it would have 96 cubic inches or .415 of a gallon capacity when filled completely. Then the fun part of subtracting the fluid displaced by gears and bearings which is simpler to just fill then to do all the calculations. You also have to allow for air and on and on.
