had 2 sets of motive gears.. in the 10 bolt it whined with the 4.10s but now with my 9 inch and 4.30s no gear whine at all..

You're right, the way teeth are cut, as in angles, can have an effect on noise. Any manufacturer that is popularly used takes things like that into account and usually the tooth angle is not noticeably different from one set to the next.
