how weak is the 10 bolt?

i have told a few guys this, keep an eye on the parts section with winter coming up there will be tons of good deals, my buddy last winter got his 12 bolt for 1300, he put a few bucks in it,and had to drive 12 hours to pick it up but i think it was money well spent,m6 cars and ten bolts do not mix, add up the cost of gears,install kit,cover,stud kit,weld tubes,and install labor ( i wont touch gears) , and you still have a rearend that can fail, imo that money is better saved for a good one then spent on a bad one, also i didnt know they made a 4.11 for a 10 bolt? that is just dumb if they do lol, and i agree if your going to do alot of racing stick with the auto, an auto is alot easier to work with , i have a m6 and think every year of swapin it for a auto,

alot of people on this site say if you wanna go fast get an auto, not saying it cant be done with a 6 speed but there are way more 9,10 second autos then m6 cars,

But would I be fine since all I have is headers and in take by putting 373 in it and just drive normal with street tires and don't go to the track? Im not racing on the street every 5 min I just occasionally rape a few hondas lol I plan on heads and cam long time from now. But ill deft get a 9in..could I get away with 411s or would I have problems as soon as I did?

I agree with y'all 100% but its too late now. And the Ls performance shop here said 411 I think I might do 373I and save for a 9in

I think in a 10 bolt it'll be 4.10s.

You can, but it's recommended to get a 9 inch just because it's stronger. They usually cost about the same anyway.

from my experience 3:73 and 4:10 gears cost the same, i have 4:10s in my 10 bolt with only 377hp at the wheels through a t56 only went a 12.9 however it is a convertible, first time running drag radials at a real hard launch the gears started to thump then a 3rd to 2nd downshift and the rear grenaded. save your money on gears and either keep the auto or get a 12 bolt just my 2 cents

The motive 4.10s are actually 4.11s, I know because I sold some. OP get a 9 inch. The 1 successful 12 bolt M6 car I remember was Carteks 500 rwhp Trans Am, but it weighed 3300 with driver

^ Yup, thats why im going backwards on my t/a and doing suspension then working from the rear up. I have heard horror stories about stock 10 bolts going out repeatedly on a stock motor. I can't remember where I read it but the 10 bolt rear ends aren't even dependable enough with stock hp/torque ratings and GM knew it.
