If you keep breaking them, why would you look for cheap?

Maybe ask who sells a quality gear set for a reasonable price. The gears are the cheapest part of of the repair, the labor is the bitch. So try to find something stronger so you can make the labor part go away. Unless you plan to just sell it.

I just sold my 12 bolt and put in a MWC 9" for that very reason. 4 repairs to the 12 bolt cost me more than the price of a new 12 bolt over 5 years.

If you can put in quality parts, it will usually save you money over the long haul.

Just my thoughts from my experience.

Relax, you calling richmond a cheap repair part, also I do all my labor so its not costing me anything. Thats whats getting replaced buddy. Pinion walked on the bearing burning up the gear set, nothing broken, its a street car that doesnt need a 12 bolt or 9".

Go for summit brand gears, they look cheap, and probably made by a higher price vendor anyway.

I got a friend running those gears, I set them up for him. So far ~10k miles and no noise and still in 1 piece. They're behind a 400hp sbc 3k stall and 3.73 gears.

I wont be getting richmonds anymore since I want silent gears in this car, my 69 whines like a jet taking off haha.

Sorry that was not what you said in the original post. All you said was CHEAP.

BTW I was totally relaxed, was just pointing out cheap usually has bad results in my experience.

Richmond is not bad, but I personally broke 3 sets from them. The last set I put in was US Gear. I had heard that the Strange gears were very durable (buddy going low 8s on a set of street gears from them) and made by US Gear(told by the Strange tech line). Since I could not get the Strange ones I opted for the US Gear set.

Anyway good luck, hope you get it sorted.

Funny how someone would have their 12 bolt repaired 4 times. I woulda learned how to do it myself after the second time at the least.

OP, I say try Motive.

I have done a R&R of the motor twice, diff, rebuilt my 455 and lots of other things, but setting up a set of gears on my back in the garage, no thanks. I can afford to pay someone when I do not feel like doing it myself. Not too mention I spent 30 weeks a year on the road. The 9" is a different story. It would be nice to do it on a bench. Hopefully that is not required anytime soon.

If I could fit a hoist in my low ceiling garage that would make a difference.

When I get in the shop on Monday I will see what I can come up for you if you are looking to save some money. We can purchase from all the gear manufactures on the market and might even have one sitting on the shelf already.
