bought a 2000 ss 6 speed w/ 68000m last month and last night i was rotating tires when i noticed the telltale junkyard yellow paint on my rear axle. ugh. also noticed the sway bar end links were shiny/new. learned lesson next time will get car up in air before buying. anyway without taking off diff cover and counting ring/pinion can i get some feedback on what rpm people are at say at 70mph in 6th and where should i look on the axle for id numbers? no noise and rear is fine just bummed that its not original. in a few weeks i will be pulling diff cover to change fluid and inspect but for now any info would be apprieciated.
at work so i cant do a search, no time

I wouldn't be too disappointed. Most F-Bodies are going to have to absorb some amount heavy use / abuse, and sometimes they break. The factory rears in these cars are crap and are the weakest link in the drivetrain especially behind an M6. If it isn't making any noise I'd just change the fluid and drive it like you stole it. Mine has 3.42s (until I get my 8.8 installed) and I think I get about 1700 rpm at 70 mph.
