will this chip affect anything or is it ok??

You need to grind off that rough spot. I'd use an angle grinder if it will get to it without hitting anything else. Just smooth it out. Then the gear will be fine. If that's a 9" Ford, find a factory shop manual and follow it to the letter. Don't try to cut corners with the pinion and carrier preload instructions.

thanks Jason i think i'm gonna have to agree with you, especially in the 4 digit power range.
thanks also to big al and hollo for your imput. midwest chassis is who will be setting up the 3rd member again with the new gears and if they don't recommend risking it, i'm not going to. as said, they aren't that much to begin with but thought i'd save a few bucks......til UPS screwed that idea!

yea i appreciate your input from the beginning about it working with my setup and all and now to this point! you never pushed me towards making a sale vs saving $100 or so and that's awesome! you guys continue to have hands down the best customer service and love that you never rush me off the phone, even with dumb questions! lol
Thanks and i'm sure i'll be talking to you guys soon enough about a few things i'll be needing to get the new found power to the pavement as you helped me do with the old setup!
